DOT/NON-DOT DRUG TESTING
DOT (Department of Transportation) urine testing is a federally mandated drug test required for safety-sensitive employees in transportation industries, such as trucking, aviation, and public transit. It follows strict guidelines set by the DOT and is regulated by the 49 CFR Part 40. The test screens for substances like marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, and PCP. A certified laboratory analyzes the sample, and a Medical Review Officer (MRO) reviews the results. DOT urine testing is conducted for pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing. session will need to be discussed with the hosts.

Employers regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are required to have a drug and alcohol testing program.

Railroads and contractors for railroads are subject to FRA drug & alcohol testing regulations. Employees that are covered by FRA drug testing regulations include all hours-of-service employees, roadway workers, and mechanical employees, inclusive of "regulated service" contractors, and also individuals who may volunteer to perform regulated service duties for a railroad.
FRA does require approval of the Company compliance plan for drug and alcohol testing including random testing.
Mass transit systems are required to have drug testing programs. Employers who receive financial assistance from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and contractors of those employers are obligated by the FTA to establish programs, as outlined in 49 CFR Part 655, aimed at preventing accidents, injuries, and fatalities caused by employees engaged in safety-sensitive roles from misusing alcohol and using prohibited drugs.
For pipeline operators the requirements are stringent with required Anti-drug Plans and Alcohol Misuse Plans. Contractor for large oil companies are often subject to the PHMSA drug and alcohol testing regulations.
Operators are required to establish a procedure for identifying the individuals referred to as "covered employees" who carry out "covered functions" on the regulated pipelines or LNG facilities. The term "covered functions" encompasses operational, maintenance, or emergency-response tasks that are subject to regulation under Part 192, 193, or 195 and are performed on either a pipeline or an LNG facility. Covered employees include individuals employed directly by operators, contractors hired by operators, as well as individuals employed by these contractors.
